How to Get Started

If you have never taken an online course, first complete the ICCOC Online Quiz to determine your readiness.  If you are already registered for an online course, then go through the checklist below and complete each task. If you have questions at anytime, please either email or call Rhonda McElroy at rmcelroy@iowalakes.edu or
(877) 807-9585 ext. 6627.


Checklist

  • Read through the Student Information Packet for your home college.
  • Complete the Student Orientation Tutorial to learn how to navigate in your online course.*
  • Complete Strategies for Student Online Success (S.O.S.) to learn how to be a successful online learner and to practice using the tools within an online course.*
  • Contact the Bookstore at your home college to purchase your books.  This needs to be completed prior to the start of the term.
  • Pay your tuition bill.  If you are not how to pay your tuition bill, contact the Business Office at your home college.
  • Check "My Profile" to ensure your email address is correct.  You can find "My Profile" in the upper right hand corner of your course home page.  If your email address is not correct, type in your correct email address and scroll down to click on "Update with New Values" before you exit.
**These resources are located under "Special
Courses" on your course home page and you do
have access to them prior to the start of the term.

How to Access your Online Course

  • Type in the user ID and password that was
    emailed to you.*
  • Click on the course link that appears under the current term.
  • Once you are in the course, read through the course syllabus and any announcements posted by your instructor.  This will help guide you on how to begin your online course.
*If you did not receive an email, first check with your
home college to ensure you are registered and if so,
then contact Rhonda McElroy at rmcelroy@iowalakes.edu
or the Helpdesk at helpdesk@iowacconline.com.

NOTE:   Your instructor will not necessary contact you prior to class starting.  Your instructor will communicate and welcome you within the course.  If you experience any technical problems trying to access the course, contact the eCollege helpdesk for assistance.  In Addition, if you are on vacation the first week of class, you are still responsible for getting the assignments completed and turned in on time.
